Architecture, Urbanism and Time   

                                                  A Vision for the Future

Architecture and Urbanism create built environments that intensify space to overcome time.  Architecture is about designing space and making place for people to live and work, while time is about creating systems for people to live by.  Transcending the boundaries of space and time, defying the limits of location and geography, cities have become artifacts that condense the continuum of time and place.

The heritage of the past and the challenges of the future are defying the dichotomy of space and time which acquire different dimensions and multiple meanings.  Due to recent evolving communication systems, space appears to lose its physical facets, while time seems to constantly diminish.  Satellite systems, virtual reality, telematics and information age manipulate the design of space and articulate the perception of place.

Understanding the design implications of architecture over time is the objective of the conference.  It addresses how cultures design and use time throughout history and develop a vision for the future. Will the architecture and urbanism of the future become increasingly dependent on the artificial and the virtual?  Or will it foretell the story of the future from a glimpse of the past?

The conference calls on architects, planners, scholars, practitioners and visionaries to discuss and share their insights on one of the following themes:

العـــمارة .. العمــران والزمـــان

.. رؤية مســـــتقبلية

 جسدت العمارة كأداة لصناعة العمران واقع أزمنة متعاقبة .. شكلت مفرداتها ملامح بيئات مختلفة عُد الفراغ الكوني لها نطاقا ؛ .. في سياق منظومي متناغم ، غدت فيه حاجة الإنسان هي الباعث ، .. وثق الزمان لنتاجها ، وقص التاريخ حيثيات هذا النتاج.

لطالما شكل الماضي بمواريثه الي جانب المستقبل في تحديه ازدواجية العلاقة بين طروحات الزمان وفرضيات المكان ،.. ومع التطورات المستمرة في بني العلوم وسبل الاتصالات فقد الفراغ أبعاده ، وبات الزمان منكمشا متضائلا..

لقد أفرد زماننا هذا لتغيرات قل أن توصف .. في الفكر، .. في الثقافة ، .. في الفن ، في العلوم .. في كافة مناحي الحياة ، .. تغيرات صنعت العمارة ، وصنعتها العمارة ، .. تلك التي غدت أحدى أدوات تشكيل واقع ذلك الزمان ،  بل لعلها اداة ذالك الواقع لتقرير ماشملته من تغيرات !!.

..لأجل هذا المؤتمر دعوة لفهم " عمارة " و" عمران" " الزمان ".. لتقرير كنه الفراغ المقبل !!، استنادا إلى ماضيه البعيد، وحاضره القريب ، كيف لنا أن نتخيله .. نحياه .. نتآلف معه .. ، هل للزمان الافتراضي إزائه من نهاية؟ أم إنها بداية فحسب!!.. هل للعمارة .. لموروثها فيه من مكان !!؟ .. أم أن واقعه قد صادر عن كل ما سبق و أتفق عليه !!؟ ..

 انها دعوة المؤتمر ..  اطروحة اكتوبر 2007 م.
